Kerala High Court judge R. Basant on Monday inaugurated the Chembai Music Festival, organised by the Guruvayur Devaswom at the Guruvayur Sreekrishna Temple.
The 15-day festival features 3,000 musicians. Mr. Basant presented the Guruvayoorappan Chembai Puraskaram, instituted by the Devaswom, to mridangam maestro Mavelikkara Velukkutty Nair. The award carries a purse of Rs.50,000, citation and a gold locket.
The festival, celebrated in the memory of Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, an ardent devotee of Lord Sree Guruvayurappan, concludes on the Ekadasi day,
